Math Jazz — Mathias Bynens’s shizzle, y’all

Note: This site might seem inactive… That’s because it is. Don’t worry though, I’m still coding webpages and stuff! If you’re interested, I suggest you get a translator and head over to Qiwi; or you could just check the latest site we’ve been working on: Optiek Ockerman Dendermonde. Enjoy! Also be sure to check out MacKeys, a tool to convert MacBook keyboard keys to their single-Unicode-character equivalents. It comes with a QWERTY MacBook keyboard in CSS3, so it’s officially cool.

Exit Coppermine?

I’m thinking about switching from Coppermine Photo Gallery to another photo gallery script. Whilst trying to make the pictures section match the look of this blog, I noticed that it is *really* hard to modify the way the script outputs code. Of course, you can edit the template files, but those are only a CSS, a template.html and a theme.php. Even though theme.php allows some modifications, it’s impossible to make a CPG-powered gallery look exactly the way I want just by editing those files. Plus, by default, CPG renders invalid HTML pages. What makes it even worse, is that table tags are hardcoded in almost *every* PHP file.

Wrong, just wrong. If only every script used a WordPress-like template system…

I think I’ll go for Markku’s iPAP. Built with web standards (Valid XHTML! CSS-based Layout! Lovely Permalinks!). However, if you know of another free :arse:-kicking photo gallery script, let me know by posting a comment.

Update: Whilst still waiting for Markku to release his photo album publisher, I stumbled accross Pictorialis. Basically, it’s a hacked WordPress. It looks real good in my opinion… How about it?

Nah… I looked at the source code of the demo and it’s about as table-based as CPG. :-(

Guess I’ll wait for Markku to release his iPAP

Just visiting for the WP webring. :) I use 4images instead of Gallery or Coppermine. Used them both and like 4images a lot better!

Both those scripts use tables by default :( I don’t know about their template systems (couldn’t be bothered to check it out now you funk soul brother), but… bah.

I guess it’s just iPAP looking too good :D

I’d love to figure out a photo gallery… As it is I just uploaded all my pix and put their thumbnails in a table :)

Let me know what you go with, I’ve found CPG just too clunky to deal with on a regular basis.

actually you can sorta configure coppermine to use your wordpress css files… sorta.

i’m not really adept at php or css or anything, but i’ve kinda been able to mush coppermine and wordpress together.

Yeah I know, you can edit template.html, but it’s not only the CSS; CPG is *full* of tables and invalid code. It’ll take way too much time to make it the way I want (read: I’m way too lazy ;)), so I might just go and use another photo gallery script in the near future.

I feel the same about Coppermine. At first it seemed like my best bet, but the more I use it, the more I want to switch to something that fits a little more snugly into my site (I use WordPress as well). I’ll be interested to see what you decide on using.

Mathias, I can see you’re looking at my photo album publisher as a viable option, thanks for considering it. I’m almost ready to release it to the public, just email me if you want to preview it. :)

I had been using Gallery, but today it hit the fan and I’ve had enough of it’s horrible code, tables, and clunkiness. I was going to may try out Coppermine, but not after reading the comments here. I need something simple that creates valid XHTML code, can use different CSS styles, and I can easily configure to match the rest of my site. If anyone comes across something, give me a holla!

You should wait ’til SPAM becomes publicly available then! Did you have a look at the photos section? SPAM rocks.

There is no “different CSS styles” feature included (yet? Is this a relevant feature for a photo gallery script?) though, but I don’t think it’s that difficult to write your own style switcher…

    Ch-check it out!
Vincent Markku Seguerra did it: he released iPAP 0.7. My advice to y’all: get it now! There was quite a fuzz about the name (iPAP or SPAM?), but Markku eventually decided to go for iPAP (which I started to prefer during the past weeks)…

    Zenphoto
I’ve been waiting for this for a pretty long while. Tristan has finally released his long awaited (at least for likes of Joen, Micheal, Mathias and me) Zenphoto. If you’re interested in a simple program that seems like it’s got a bright future amongst those people not really interested in hosting their photos on a server far far away, then Zenphoto deserves your attention. I’ve only been playing with it for a day now and already I know what I’m going to love using this application. […]
